Gluten-Friendly Sourdough Starter – The Free Spirit

The free spirit of the family Our Gluten-Friendly Sourdough Starter is made from a blend of brown rice, sorghum, millet and buckwheat flours, with no wheat, rye, barley or spelt in the recipe. It brings a rich, earthy flavour to wheat-free bread, pancakes, flatbreads and more. It's free from gums and additives, and it's a great way to explore wheat-free baking with real sourdough. Best for: wheat-free loaves, pancakes, flatbreads, crackers and muffins. Please note: this starter is made in the same kitchen where we bake with wheat, rye and spelt. We take real care to keep it separate, with thorough cleaning and careful handling at every step. Still, because it shares a facility with gluten-containing grains, we can't guarantee it's free from cross-contact. This product is not certified gluten-free and is not suitable for people with celiac disease or a wheat allergy. What's included 10 g of dehydrated sourdough starter, made with organic brown rice, sorghum, millet and buckwheat flours Printed and digital step-by-step instructions How it works Rehydrate: mix the dried starter with a little flour and water. Feed: feed it once a day until it's bubbly and active, usually in about a week. It won't always double or float, so look for plenty of bubbles. Bake and keep it going: save a little after each bake and keep feeding it. It's not a one-time use. With regular care, your starter will last for years. Why bakers love it No wheat in the recipe, and no gums or additives Earthy, balanced flavour from whole grains Vegan and shelf-stable until you're ready to bake Find the full rehydration and care steps in our starter guides.
