Aberargie 2017 Laureate Barley Scotch Whisky

Aberargie Laureate is a young single malt from Aberargie Distillery, made entirely from estate grown Laureate barley. Matured in a combination of 68% first-fill sherry casks and 32% first-fill bourbon casks, it is bottled at 48.2% ABV without chill filtration. On the nose, it offers candied orange peel, sultanas, dried apricots and fresh orchard fruit. The palate is relatively bright and fruity, with ripe apples and pears, dried fruit, gentle sweetness and a touch of spice. The finish is long and honeyed, with lingering fruit and subtle oak influence. Overall, it presents a fruit forward and approachable style, with the sherry casks providing richness while the bourbon maturation helps retain freshness. It is also an interesting expression of Aberargie’s aim to explore how individual barley varieties influence the character of its whisky.
