How a Secret Paternity Test Actually Works The forensic DNA lab isolates a usable profile from the alternative item using extraction techniques designed for small, mixed, or degraded biological samples. That profile is compared against the cheek swab using 24 DNA genetic markers with dual processing. When paternity is confirmed, results typically show 99.999% or higher. When paternity is excluded, exclusion is 100%. The comparison is scientifically identical to any other paternity test. Which Alternative Samples Work Best for Secret Collection? These samples may be suitable, depending on their condition and handling. Usable DNA is not guaranteed: Used toothbrush: Used at least 20 times by the person being tested, without sharing. Hair with roots: 25 to 50 strands with viable roots attached from that person. Cut hair without roots cannot be used. Nail clippings: Fresh fingernail or toenail clippings from that person. Chewed gum: Follow the collection guide and keep the sample dry. Used razor: Follow the collection guide for the razor type. Earwax swabs, used tissues or dental floss: Confirm suitability with your DNA Specialist before sending. Water bottles, cups, and utensils are not accepted.
