Image size: 11 x 15 inches (28cm x 38cm) Frame size 16 x 20 inches (41cm x 51 cm) With the Lizard Light abeam to port, those aboard the Albion Line’s full-rigger Nelson knew that their long passage from New Zealand was nearly at an end. An iron ship launched in 1874, the Nelson was one of six handsome sisters built by Robert Duncan & Co. on the Clyde. She made good passages in the New Zealand trade for over thirty years before being sold to Chile where she served out a remarkably long career as a barque, storage hulk and coastal barge before being wrecked near Chiloe in 1944.  (A larger photo is available on request)
