(PRE-SALE) Ep. 81: EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE recycled canvas hip bag
Everyone's carrying some. Ours has a zip. A hip bag in heavyweight recycled canvas, washed soft, printed in deep plum with the only truly honest thing most of us own. Wear it at the waist or pulled up across the body — the grosgrain strap adjusts for both, and it's a completely different bag depending which you choose. 300gsm canvas made from cotton that already existed. Lined in organic cotton, which almost nothing at this price is. A shaping dart at the front so it holds its curve empty and sits flat against you full. 25 made. Then the episode closes. WHAT IT HOLDS Phone. Keys. Cards or a slim wallet. Lip balm. Sunscreen. Headphones. Not a handbag, and we won't pretend otherwise — 30cm end to end, 6.5cm deep. Everything you actually need and nothing you've been carrying around for no reason. The rest of it is metaphorical and you're on your own. THE DETAILS • Heavyweight recycled canvas shell — 80% recycled cotton, 20% recycled polyester, 300gsm, garment washed • Lined in 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton, 160gsm • Adjustable grosgrain strap — wear at the waist or across the body • Side-release buckle with slide adjuster • Reversed nylon coil zip • Shaping dart at the front, so it holds its curve rather than slumping • Printed in Australia in deep plum, water-based ink • One size · full dimensions below DIMENSIONS (CM) [OD Size Guide Custom Liquid block] WHY THERE ARE ONLY 25 Because we don't know yet whether you want it. The way most labels do this is to commit to five hundred, build a forecast around them, and then spend the back half of the year discounting whatever didn't move. We've watched enough small brands die that way to not want a turn. So we make twenty-five. Enough that the print run is worth doing properly. Few enough that if we've misread it, we've misread it quietly and the mistake is ours rather than a landfill's. It's a slower way to build a label. It means things sell out and stay sold out, and we know that's annoying. But it also means nothing we make is something nobody wanted, and nothing you buy from us was ever going to end up in a bin with the tags still on. Twenty-five. Then the episode closes and we start the next one. FABRIC & MAKE The shell is a recycled canvas — 80% recycled cotton, 20% recycled polyester — certified to the Global Recycled Standard. Made from cotton and fibre that already existed rather than from a new crop, which for a hard-wearing accessory is the better trade than growing something new. Washed at the fabric stage, so it arrives already soft and already settled. It won't shrink on you and it won't stiffen back up. The lining is 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton. Most bags in this bracket are lined in polyester you'll never see. This one isn't. Certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — tested for harmful substances. Made in a Fair Wear accredited facility. PETA-Approved Vegan. FOR THE NEXT GENERATION We make small runs because the alternative is making things nobody wanted. 25 of these exist. Not a marketing number — the quantity we could make properly from the cloth we had. When they're gone the episode closes and we start the next one. Nothing sits in a warehouse. Nothing gets discounted into landfill at the end of a season. The canvas is made from cotton and fibre that already existed — 80% recycled cotton, 20% recycled polyester, certified to the Global Recycled Standard. For something that has to survive years of being thrown in a car and sat on, that's a better trade than growing a new crop. The lining is 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton. You'll barely see it. Most bags at this price hide polyester in there. Made in a Fair Wear accredited facility, by people paid properly. Tested to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 for harmful substances. PETA-Approved Vegan — no leather, no suede, nothing animal-derived in the bag or the hardware. Printed here in Australia with water-based ink that sits in the fibre rather than as a plastic film on top of it. And then the part that matters most: it washes, it softens, and it's built to be kept. The lowest-impact bag in the world is the one you don't replace. CARE Cold machine wash, 30°. Wash inside out, with similar colours. Close the zip first. Don't iron. Don't tumble dry. Don't dry clean. Don't bleach. Reshape while damp and let it dry flat. It'll look better in two years than it does in the box. The canvas will mark and soften with wear. That's the material doing what it should, not a fault. FAQs Will my phone fit? Yes, including the large ones. The bag is 30cm long and 14cm high, so a phone sits comfortably with room either side for keys, cards and a lip balm. What won't fit: a water bottle, a book, a laptop, a full-size sunglasses case. Is it organic cotton? The lining is. The shell isn't, and we'd rather say so. The outer canvas is 80% recycled cotton and 20% recycled polyester, certified to the Global Recycled Standard — made from fibre that already existed rather than from a new crop. For a bag that has to take years of wear, we think that's the better trade than growing something new. The lining is 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton. Waist or cross-body — which is it meant for? Both. The grosgrain strap runs through a slide adjuster, so you can shorten it to sit at the waist or let it out to wear across the body. They look like two different bags. Worth trying both before you decide. Will it fit me? One size, and the strap adjusts across a wide range, so it works whatever you're wearing it over — a tee or a winter coat. Full strap measurements are in the dimensions table above. Can I wash it? Yes. Cold machine wash at 30°, inside out, zip closed, with similar colours. Reshape while damp and dry flat. Don't tumble dry, don't iron, don't dry clean. Will the natural canvas get dirty? Eventually, and that's the point of a washable bag rather than a leather one. Undyed canvas marks more visibly than a dark colour would, but it also washes. It'll soften and settle over the first few months and look better for it. Will the print crack or peel? It shouldn't. It's printed with water-based ink that sits in the fibre rather than as a film on top of it, so it moves with the canvas instead of sitting rigid on it. It will soften very slightly over years of washing. It won't flake off. Is it vegan? Yes — PETA-Approved Vegan. No leather, no suede, no animal-derived materials anywhere in the bag or its hardware. Will you make more? No. Episodes are one run, then they close. If this one sells out and you want to know when something similar turns up, join the list — that's where it gets announced first.
