A PADI Discover Scuba dive from the shore at Los Cancajos with a certified instructor beside you the whole time. No course, no experience, no exam. The Briefing Breathing, hand signals, mask. That is the theory. Short, clear and never rushed. You sign a simple medical form, get fitted with wetsuit, jacket and tank, and walk in from the shore. The First Minutes Water you can stand in. You practise breathing through the regulator and clearing your mask in shallow water first. When you are calm, the instructor leads you along the reef. The Dive Shallow, guided hand to hand. Never more than four adults or two children per instructor. Your only job is to breathe, relax and look around. The Fish Schools on the rock, an octopus if you are lucky. Parrotfish, trumpetfish, rays on the sand sometimes, and the blue drop off La Palma is known for. Atlantic water, so no coral and no promised turtles. The Gear Everything included, insurance too. The centre also trains dive instructors, so the equipment and the standard are what professionals use. Ten minutes by taxi from the cruise port. Good To Know You do not need to be a strong swimmer.
