Apocalypse V
Apocalypse V compresses a broad landscape into a muted ochre field, with a dark tree at left, a low structure at right, and a pale cluster of vertical marks receding through the centre. The acrylic is worked in thin, hazed passages that leave the canvas weave visible, weakening the scene’s contours without removing them. The image holds together through the relation between the near tree, the distant forms, and a barely articulated horizon. In the Apocalypse series, Lima uses this reduced spatial construction to keep the landscape recognisable while its descriptive certainty begins to dissolve.
