OH-ALS: Out of Hospital Advanced Life Support (RCUK)

Out-of-Hospital Advanced Life Support (OH-ALS) The Out-of-Hospital Advanced Life Support (OH-ALS) course is designed to prepare healthcare professionals to confidently deliver advanced life support in pre-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Developed from the established ALS programme, OH-ALS has been redesigned to reflect the unique challenges and demands of delivering emergency care outside a hospital environment. Over two days, candidates will broaden their knowledge through lectures and practical skill stations, while developing both clinical and non-technical skills through immersive simulations and interactive workshops. During the course, candidates will learn how to: • Recognise and manage a deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach • Deliver standardised adult advanced life support, including adaptations for special circumstances • Manage a cardiac arrest effectively as part of a multidisciplinary emergency team • Become an effective and confident team member and leader through the use of non-technical skills Before attending, candidates will be registered on the Resuscitation Council UK Learning Management System (LMS), where they can access the required online modules and pre-course multiple-choice question (MCQ) paper. A course manual will be provided approximately one month before the course. Candidates are expected to read the manual and submit their completed pre-course MCQ paper before the course begins.
