Pierre Girardin Meursault Les Vireuils 2024 750ml
Les Vireuils occupies the northern shoulder of Meursault, up near the boundary with Auxey and Monthelie, and it is among the highest and coolest ground in the appellation. Thin soils and exposure give a Chardonnay of real nerve, the sort of site that has grown steadily more valuable as growing seasons have warmed.Expect a bright, almost crystalline nose of green apple, lime and white blossom, with a distinctly flinty edge. The palate is slender and tightly drawn, with a fine acid line running the length of it, a stony bite through the middle and a clean, persistent, mouth-watering finish.Pierre Girardin set up on his own in Meursault in 2016, the thirteenth generation of a Burgundian family and the son of Vincent Girardin, who kept back 4.5 hectares of his best vineyards to pass to his son. Everything is fermented naturally, aged in large 456 litre barrels, and made with the stated intention of letting the terroir rather than the winemaking do the talking.Vintages may vary.
