The Lord of the Rings Collection - CHASING ORCS AND HOBBITS Hand Dyed on Stained Glass Fingering - Splashed & Speckled Colorway
Chasing Orcs and Hobbits was inspired by the section of The Lord of the Rings when orcs attack and kidnap Merry and Pippin. Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas track them for days, chasing both the orcs and hobbits in hope of finding them. The colors include copper, forest green, eggplant, mithril, and chocolate. I dyed this yarn using my Splashed and Speckled method, which means each skein contains the same colors but in different places, making each one unique. If you plan to use more than one skein in a project, I recommend switching skeins every few rows to create a more consistent look. YARN BASE I dyed this colorway on Stained Glass Fngering, which is a smooth, soft 2-ply yarn made of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon. The thing that makes Stained Glass Fingering uniquely wonderful is that one ply is made of white wool while the other alternates between black and white, so when I dye the yarn, it looks like leaded stained glass. Each 100 gram skein has 400 yards.
