Hurriyya- حرية
Freedom is not declared once. It is written, layered, and reclaimed again and again. Hurriyya is a textured mixed-media painting built from accumulation. Layers of deep violet, magenta, and rose, worked and reworked until the surface holds the weight of everything unspoken. Across it, Arabic words surface and submerge: حرية (hurriyya, freedom), خيالي (khayali, my imagination), حياتي (hayati, my life), أنت (anta, you). Some words are bold and unapologetic. Others barely emerge from beneath the paint, like thoughts that were buried before they could be finished. Scattered throughout are fragments of handwritten text, intimate and illegible at a glance, the kind of words you write for yourself and no one else. The metallic sheen catches light differently depending on where you stand, which feels right. Freedom rarely looks the same twice. This is a painting about what it costs to claim yourself, and what it feels like when you finally do.
