Baptisia x cultorum ‚Vanilla Cream‘ (False Indigo)

The flower buds of this extraordinary dye plant first open in a warm light yellow, then slowly, almost in slow motion, fade to a creamy white. A color change that you hardly expect and that is precisely why it is so enchanting. From May to June, the firm, upright shoots bear loose clusters of flowers that are visible from afar in the garden. Beneath them: dark blue-green, matte foliage that retains its shape even after flowering. And when autumn arrives, the elegant dark pods remain – beautiful enough for a dried flower arrangement, beautiful enough to simply leave standing.
