2008 Gibson Museum Release Reserve Merlot Magnum 1.5L
2008 Reserve Merlot Magnum 1.5L Origin of Grapes: Barossa Valley Merlot (35%), Cab Sauvignon (13%), Petit Verdot (2%) Adelaide Hills Merlot (50%) Winemaking/Maturation: Some 6 components were used in compiling this blend. A multiplicity of combinations of extraction, oak, maceration and sites were used. New French oak hogsheads were predominantly used for maturation. Analysis: Alcohol 14.5% : Acid 6.95 g/l : pH 3.54 : Residual sugar 2.4 g/l : Vintage Comments: A season of 2 parts with ideal moderate conditions early and extreme heat later in March. The early ripening of Merlot helped to avoid most of the weather. Yields were moderate& styles were generous. The expression of fine perfume and varietal flavours in Merlot was good. Tasting Note: Deep purple colour with red tones, lifted complex aromas of sweet spices, almond & damp earth followed by a richly flavoured finely balance mid palate with lingering anise & dark cherry flavours finishing softly. Great structure to make this wine age & really develop its complexity
