Eduardo Armero Pink Bourbon
Pink Lemonade, Cherry Juice, Marzipan, Biscotti Eduardo Armero is the wiz behind this coffee. His farm, El Mirador, sits in the mountains of Huila, Colombia, and it’s been gaining outsized attention recently for its knee-buckling lots. By comparison to most farms, El Mirador is tiny, producing barely 100 bags each year. This lot is a purist’s dream: 100% Pink Bourbon. Immaculately washed. Grown at 1,700 meters under partial shade, then processed under Eduardo’s watchful eye. It’s sweet, clean, and built on balance. Followers of the cult of Pink Bourbon will flip for it, as will followers of just about any other coffee-based cult (oh there are many). Pink Lemonade is the big note here, the black carton Minute-Maid variety. It's sweet and citrusy, never sour or puckery, and it strolls confidently across the temperature range. Then comes Cherry Juice. Perfectly ripe. Not quite tart, not quite sweet, basically early summer in a cup. As the coffee cools, things soften. Marzipan emerges, and the sugary almond makes for a killer combo with the zippy citrus. A note of Biscotti anchors the base, adding weight and rounding things out. Put it all together, you've got an exceptional coffee. Nothing experimental, nothing over-the-top—just a reminder that in a world of process-heavy lots, pristine varietal expressions remains a force to contend with.
