For your consideration, we are privileged to offer for sale this exceptional early 1980s Montblanc No. 144 Meisterstück Classique Fountain Pen in the highly coveted Bordeaux (Burgundy) resin—presented here in true Mint, Never Inked condition and fitted with a 14K Broad nib. This is a remarkably scarce and beautifully preserved example of one of Montblanc’s most elegant and elusive color variations. The Bordeaux finish is where this piece truly separates itself. Rich, deep, and luminous, the resin carries a warmth and sophistication that elevates it well beyond the traditional black Meisterstück—subtle in tone, yet unmistakable in presence. Under light, the color reveals depth and character that collectors have long admired, and increasingly sought after. Condition is nothing short of extraordinary. The cap and barrel remain factory-fresh, free from chips, cracks, wear, bite marks, or repairs. The surfaces are pristine, with a clarity and gloss that can only be found in a carefully preserved, never-used example. The cap secures with its original friction fit, precise and exact. The gold-filled trim—clip and triple cap bands—retains a brilliant, untarnished finish, with no wear to note. The cap band is crisply engraved “MONTBLANC MEISTERSTÜCK,” while the clip bears the simple “GERMANY” stamp, placing this example firmly in the early 1980s production period, further supported by its correct monotone nib. There are no monograms or personal engravings—an essential attribute for the serious collector. Elegantly proportioned, the pen measures approximately 5 5/16 inches capped and 5 7/8 inches posted, with a weight of 0.59 ounces—offering the refined balance and effortless handling that define the 144 Classique. The pen is equipped with its original Montblanc converter, tested with water to confirm flawless operation. At its heart lies a 14K / 585 gold nib, designated Broad and measuring approximately 0.94mm at the tipping. Untouched by ink, the nib remains in pristine, factory-new condition—preserved exactly as it left Montblanc. Known for their smooth, expressive performance, Montblanc Broad nibs deliver a rich, confident line, and this example promises nothing less. The Montblanc 144 Bordeaux occupies a special place within the Meisterstück lineage—produced in smaller numbers and cherished for its distinctive aesthetic. To find one in this level of preservation, never inked and uncompromised, is increasingly rare. This is more than a fountain pen—it is a statement of taste, a collector’s prize, and a refined instrument of enduring value. Whether preserved as an investment-grade piece or ultimately brought to life on paper, it stands as a truly exceptional addition to any serious collection.
