1960s Harry Bertoia for Knoll 427 P Side Chair in Yellow Fiberglass from IBM
This is a Bertoia Side Chair, model 427 P, initially designed in 1960 by Harry Bertoia for Knoll International. This particular example dates to the 1960s. The seat of the piece is made of light yellow fiberglass, and the steel frame has a coat of black Rislan. The chair has the original Knoll bow tie label affixed, as well as an inventory tag from the IBM Headquarters in Armonk, NY. The HQ was designed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) Architects under project lead Gordon Bunshaft, with Davis Allen likely leading the interiors. The chair measures 19.75 inches deep, 21.75 inches wide, and 28.75 inches high, with a seat height of 17.75 inches. This piece does show some wear, including scuffs and scratches on the frame. The seat also shows light surface blemishes from previous use. Overall, this chair is in good condition. Please see photos.
