Reckoning with the Unconscious #10
Watercolor on 9" x 12" coldpress paper Original (one-of-a-kind) Belief systems do not disappear. They settle into one another, layer by layer, until what remains is something neither purely old nor purely new but alive with both. The green cross that appears throughout the Yucatán carries this history quietly. Rooted in Christian tradition yet shaped by a much older Mayan understanding of the four directions, it did not replace what came before. It absorbed it. Held it. Became something new without erasing what it came from. This painting emerges from that understanding, from the recognition that history does not stay in the past. It moves through form, through land, through the materials we inherit without choosing. There is a presence at the threshold that watches. Possibility exists there. The haciendas of this region hold that same layered quality, architecture built on top of older architecture, labor and land and belief all folded into the same walls. This painting opens inward and outward at once, holding what is personal and what has been passed down, making space for all of it to quietly coexist. What came before us continues to shape how we see, how we move, and what we choose to carry forward. Contact Us for Pricing
