This is it.What Is a Mother Plate?In vinyl record manufacturing, the “mother” is a metal electroplate derived from the original lacquer master. It is an exact mirror-image of the final record — not meant to be played, but to produce the stampers that physically press grooves into vinyl under hydraulic pressure.Creating a mother involves electroplating: a multi-step chemical process using silver and nickel baths. For this release, a 2-step process was used — the lacquer master was plated to create the father, which was then plated to create these mothers.
