British WW1 & Australian WW2 medals Drummer Moore 2nd Northumberland Fusiliers

1914 – 15 Star, British War and Victory Medals all named 2776 PTE J.P. MOORE. NORTH’D FUS.; War Medal and Australian Service Medal 1939 – 45 both named W237637 J.P. MOORE. They come with copies of WW1 MIC, medal rolls, Silver War Badge roll, Australian Service records and newspaper articles. Sergeant James Patrick Moore was born in Portsmouth, England in 1896. He enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers on 16/12/1910 as a (14-year-old) drummer. The battalion was stationed in India from 1913 and on the outbreak of the Great War were in in Sabathu, India. It returned to England landing on 22/12/1914, and was posted to the 84th Brigade, 28th Division. He landed in France with ‘A’ Company 2nd Battalion on the 18/1/1915. It must have been a hell of a shock to go from the heat of India and into the trenches of France in winter. He was admitted to No 3 Casualty Clearing Station on 20/2/1915 with frostbitten feet and was evacuated to England. He was medically discharged due to a heart complaint on 20/7/1915 with a Silver War Badge and pension. He emigrated to Western Australia Post War and appeared on the 1925 election rolls in Perth. He was arrested and charged with running a betting shop in 1936 and was fined heavily receiving a 60-pound fine in February and charged again in July receiving a 80 pound fine. During WW2 he enlisted into the Citizens Military Forces (C.M.F.) and was employed as a clerk in various Western Australin based units as a Sergeant from 12/6/1940 – 8/7/1948. He died in Perth in 1966.
