Silver Brothers 3 Year Rye Whiskey, Batch No. 1 is the inaugural Empire Rye from a new Hudson Valley farm distillery, a bright, spice-driven pour that drinks with real poise at just three years old. Silver Brothers Spirits Company is a family-owned farm distillery in Old Chatham, New York, founded by Matthew Greitzer and Kimberly Driessen-Greitzer on a 220-acre property in the Hudson Valley. The focus is terroir-driven, grain-to-glass whiskey, with the majority of the grain grown on site without herbicides, fungicides, or other chemicals while the farm pursues organic certification. Distillation happens in copper pot stills, and the whiskey rests in a dunnage-style barrel house where the casks sit on the earth and follow the seasons. Made from 40% malted rye, 40% raw rye, and 20% malted barley, this marriage of three thirty-gallon barrels filled in April 2023 carries a three-year age statement and the Empire Rye seal. Deep amber-gold in the glass, it opens with orange, clove, and brown sugar. The palate layers bright orange and apple with baking spice and vanilla, leading to a finish defined by distinctive rye spice. Slowly proofed down to 46% ABV, it is balanced and expressive. Hand-labeled, numbered, and limited to roughly 450 bottles, it is lovely neat or with a small cube of ice, and versatile enough to make a memorable Manhattan or a Boulevardier.
