Meet Sweet Delilah! When the Humane Society sends us a message at 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon saying… “Hi! Are you interested in this cutie? She’s 3 months old, 13 lbs., spayed and ready to go. She’ll be on doxycycline for a month for ehrlichia.” …and then sends THIS FACE… What else could we possibly say but YES!!! And just like that, Sweet Delilah became part of the Mission Bay Puppy Rescue family. Delilah is about 3 months old and 13 pounds, and we honestly have no idea what her breed mix might be. What we can tell you is that she is fast, agile, playful and VERY excited to meet the other puppies here! She has that wonderful puppy enthusiasm where everything — and everyone — looks like it could become her new best friend. Her beginning wasn’t nearly as happy. Delilah was found abandoned and alone, covered in fleas and ticks. Thankfully, she made her way to the Humane Society, where she was bathed, treated, given the medical care she needed and spayed. She also tested positive for ehrlichia, a bacterial infection carried by ticks. The good news is that ehrlichiosis is commonly treated with doxycycline, and Delilah will continue her medication for approximately 30 days. Doxycycline is the recommended treatment for canine ehrlichiosis, typically given for about 28 days. Dogs treated before the disease progresses to a severe chronic stage generally respond very well. And Delilah certainly doesn't seem to know there is anything wrong with her. She is busy doing much more important things… like figuring out who wants to play with her next. Best of all… Sweet Delilah is READY FOR ADOPTION! She is spayed, receiving her medication, and ready to find the family who will make sure the rest of her story looks nothing like the beginning.
