Amphora Max: Apollo Tourquase
A kneeling figure emerges in pale relief from the white and turquoise surface of this ceramic amphora by Gianfranco Briceño, finished with gold accents and a banded scallop pattern around the lower body. The torn, folded mouth crowns a tall sculptural form worked in engobes, oxides, and glazes through Briceño's high temperature firing process. Briceño is a Peruvian ceramicist, sculptor, painter, and photographer based in São Paulo, Brazil whose work draws from ancient Greek and pre-Inca cultures.
