Pierre Jeanneret Chandigarh X-Leg Administrative Desk
Administrative desk from the Chandigarh furniture program, circa 1960. The desk features a rectangular writing surface measuring 137 × 68 cm, supported by a characteristic sculptural X-form leg at one end and an integrated storage pedestal at the other. The pedestal incorporates two drawers with recessed circular finger pulls and a cupboard compartment accessible from the reverse. This configuration appears to be a less commonly encountered two-drawer variant within Jeanneret’s Chandigarh administrative desk family, closely related to the documented X-leg office desk types produced for government use. The side of the pedestal retains the painted institutional inventory marking “DIT CT-252.” Comparable Chandigarh furniture is known with the same DIT / CT stencil format followed by individual inventory numbers, supporting its original institutional use within the Chandigarh/Punjab government administration. The precise department represented by the abbreviation has not been conclusively established.
