What you are looking at A river valley at sunset with a volcano erupting in the centre distance, lava running down its flanks and lightning cracking around the ash plume. In the foreground, two large predators face each other across a shallow stream, one pale grey-brown with its jaws open, the other tan with dark tiger striping. Behind them a long-necked sauropod grazing on the left, a second one on the right, and a smaller striped dinosaur crossing the middle distance. Pterosaurs in the sky, six or seven of them at different depths. Dark conifers along both banks, red cliffs behind, and tropical ferns and orange flowering plants framing the bottom edge. What it is like to build 200 pieces is a single sitting, comfortably under an hour for an adult. The two dinosaurs are the anchors: large, high-contrast and unlike anything else in the frame. Do them first, then the volcano, which is the only source of orange in the picture. The foreground ferns are the fiddly part, dense green fronds at the same scale across the bottom, and they are the right thing to leave until the rest has closed in. Good puzzle to build with a child, because the subject carries them and the piece count means it actually finishes.
