FIELD STUDY — P2R4S6-FS BOTANICAL ABUNDANCE FIELD STUDY OVERVIEW Field Study P2R4S6-FS is a unique ceramic archive work by Tebogo Sethole exploring botanical diversity, chromatic layering, and the relationship between observation and expression within a modular ceramic field. Composed across twenty ceramic modules, the work assembles multiple botanical species into a richly layered composition where flowers, foliage, stems, and organic forms coexist within a unified field condition. The imagery moves beyond documentation and into interpretation, allowing colour, gesture, and atmosphere to contribute equally to the reading of the work. Produced during an active period of artistic exploration, the work records an investigation into hand-painted botanical language, chromatic variation, and the interaction between ceramic surface and image. Evidence of process remains visible throughout the composition and contributes to the individuality of the piece. As a Field Study, this work exists as a singular archive artefact within the VLVLK Studio Archive. FIELD READ The composition operates as a botanical abundance field. Unlike studies focused on singular forms or isolated species, this work embraces multiplicity. Various botanical elements overlap and interact, creating a layered landscape of growth, movement, and seasonal variation. The composition balances dense areas of activity with open ceramic ground, allowing the eye to move through the field rather than settle on a single focal point. At a distance the work reads as a unified botanical environment; at closer proximity individual flowers, leaves, stems, and painterly decisions become increasingly apparent. The field celebrates diversity, emergence, and the complexity of natural systems. MATERIAL BEHAVIOUR The work embraces the inherent variability of ceramic production and hand-painted imagery. Variations in brushwork, pigment density, chromatic saturation, transparency, line quality, and surface interaction remain visible throughout the composition. These characteristics are preserved as evidence of process and are considered part of the authorship of the work. COLOUR DETAIL Layered / Pigmented / Variegated A layered palette of botanical greens, soft whites, muted olive tones, eucalyptus greens, deep foliage colours, and subtle natural accents. The chromatic behaviour remains rich yet restrained, allowing individual botanical forms to emerge without overwhelming the overall field condition.
