Angie Goto is a Deaf Australian artist known for her distinctive interpretations of her surroundings through figurative and abstract art. Born Deaf, she brings a unique perspective to colour, imagery, and form. Angie studied Fine Art and Graphic Design in Newcastle and Sydney. Her return to painting was marked by the short film Angie, which was a finalist at Tropfest in 2015. Since then, she has held successful solo exhibitions in Australia and internationally, including at 19 Karen Gallery (Queensland), Art To Art Gallery (Melbourne), and Dyer Arts Center (New York). She has been a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize, Paddington Art Prize, Fisher’s Ghost Art Prize, and Michael Reid’s National Emerging Art Prize, among others. These experiences have reinforced her dedication to painting as her primary practice. In addition to her art career, Angie works part-time as an Artist Educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) and the Powerhouse Museum, delivering programs focused on Deaf and hard of hearing audiences. She also often works with the Art Gallery of NSW, Hazelhurst Arts Centre, and Campbelltown Arts Centre.
