Long requested by players who missed its aggressively angular silhouette, the XPT420DX brings back one of Ibanez's most distinctive metal-oriented body shapes with neck-through construction and a hardware package built for the genre it was designed around. Neck-Through Construction A five-piece maple and walnut neck runs the full length of the instrument, with okoume wings attached on either side. Eliminating the neck joint improves sustain by allowing vibration to travel through a continuous piece of wood, and removes the heel entirely — which on a guitar with this much upper-fret real estate is a practical benefit, not just a spec-sheet item. The okoume wings keep the tone bright and solid, and a 25.5-inch scale maintains familiar tension and response. Electronics and Hardware Ibanez Quantum humbuckers in a straightforward HH configuration run through a single volume, single tone, and three-way selector — a deliberately uncluttered layout. The Quantum set has quick low-end response and clear note definition that keeps fast passages articulate under heavy gain, with a full-bodied mid-to-high range that gives riffs weight. The Edge-Zero II double-locking tremolo features a lower-profile design for playing comfort and a stud lock function for tuning stability through aggressive use. The reverse headstock and reverse sharktooth inlays complete the look.
