White flowers bloom in spring, followed by dark green, glossy leaves in summer that often turn orange or red in autumn. Its small, red fruit is borne in the fall, and can last on the branch until winter. Chokeberry fruits are edible, but are best eaten in jams or jellies. The plant gets its name from the astringent taste of its raw fruit.
