Edwin Lutyens was an eminent British architect of the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century who designed many buildings in the English countryside, mixing architectural styles to create what was coined an 'arts and crafts' design. In addition to his work on homes, he was influential in the construction of New Delhi - to such an extent that an area of the city was named 'Lutyen's Delhi' in his honour. He also designed many war memorials, including the famed Thiepval Memorial for the missing persons of the Somme in France.
