The Sangam Aasan
One aasan, two faces. Banarasi maroon for festivals. Pastel pichwai for daily prayer. What it is A two-sided floor aasan with a 4mm foam core for cushioned floor seating. One side carries traditional maroon Banarasi fabric — deep, woven, festive. The other carries a digitally printed pichwai in soft pastels — light, devotional, calm. Braided rose gold lace runs along all four sides. Built so you don't have to pick between traditional and contemporary — flip it for whichever the moment calls for. The set of 2 fits flat inside a wardrobe shelf when stored in the cover. Materials & construction Maroon Banarasi fabric (festive side): the traditional handloom-style weave of Varanasi, in a deep maroon that anchors the aasan to any sacred occasion. The gold motifs catch light beautifully against floor diyas during evening poojas. Digital-printed pichwai (pastel side): the pichwai art tradition comes from Nathdwara, painted historically as temple backdrops for Krishna. We digitally print it in soft pastels because the print holds colour permanently — it will not fade with use or light exposure the way hand-painted dyes would. 4mm foam sheet core: sandwiched between the two fabric faces for cushioned seating during long poojas and havans. Braided rose gold lace: runs along all four sides, finishing the edges and giving the aasan a polished frame regardless of which side faces up. Construction: machine-stitched throughout for consistent, durable seams that won't loosen with regular use and dry cleaning. Thread finishing is done by hand before dispatch. The story Sangam means confluence — the meeting of streams. Banarasi is the language of Varanasi's looms, woven for celebration, depth, and the slow gold of festive evenings. Pichwai is the language of Nathdwara's painters, soft and devotional, used historically to backdrop the deity in Krishna temples. Most aasans force you to choose between the two aesthetics: you keep one set of pastel aasans for daily prayer and another set of vibrant ones for festivals. The Sangam Aasan doesn't ask you to choose. The same aasan turns with the day — pastel for morning aarti, Banarasi for the festival evening. Care & longevity Dry clean only. Do not machine wash, hand wash, or soak. Spot-clean small spills immediately with a dry cloth — do not rub Keep away from direct moisture and standing humidity Store flat in the provided cover when not in use Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to protect the lace finish Rotate which side faces up periodically to even out wear on the foam core What to expect when it arrives Machine-stitched seams give you cleaner, more durable construction than hand-stitched aasans — expect consistent corners and straight edges The pichwai digital print may appear marginally different in person than on screen — this is normal screen colour calibration, not a defect The Banarasi side has natural weave grain and a soft directional sheen The braided rose gold lace lies flat along the edges; minor settling may occur during the first few uses A faint scent of fresh fabric on arrival, which fades within a day What you will not get: Hand-stitch variations in spacing or symmetry (this is machine-finished, not hand-finished) A washable product — this is strictly dry-clean only Plastic or synthetic gloss — both fabrics carry their natural sheen Packaging The set arrives folded inside the matching storage cover with zip closure, packed in an outer protective shipping box. The cover doubles as everyday storage — keep the aasans inside when not in use to protect them from dust.
