1989 PEUGEOT 205 GTI 1.9 (COMING SOON)
Supplied new by Swan National Motors, Cheshire in August 1989, this exceptional Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 is presented in desirable Graphite Grey with red Quartet half-leather seats and contrasting red carpets. Under the bonnet resides the legendary naturally aspirated 1.9-litre inline-four engine, producing aaround 128bhp through a five-speed manual transmission. Specification highlights include the iconic 15-inch ‘Speedline’ alloy wheels, distinctive GTI red exterior accents, central locking, electric windows and a Philips radio/cassette player. This particularly desirable non-sunroof example has covered just 58,000 miles from new and has remained within the care of only two families throughout its life. Clearly cherished from new, the car presents in fantastic condition and stands out as one of the most honest and well-preserved 205 GTIs you are likely to encounter. During the most recent ownership period of eleven years, the Peugeot has covered fewer than 1,000 miles and has spent the vast majority of its time carefully stored, covered and mothballed in a garage. The benefits of such careful ownership are immediately apparent. Everywhere you look, the car feels clean, fresh and remarkably well kept. Years of indoor storage have preserved the exterior exceptionally well, with the plastic trim and light lenses retaining their colour and finish far better than typically seen on 205 GTIs of this age. Known problem areas such as the door shuts, sills and rear arches appear excellent. The body panels appear straight and well-aligned, while the classic ‘Speedline’ alloy wheels present in very good order. Inside, the cabin is equally impressive. The dashboard has resisted the cracking and discolouration so often associated with these cars, and the controls and switchgear remain in excellent condition. The seats, carpets and headlining are all very well preserved and free from notable wear or damage. Elsewhere, the engine bay, boot compartment and underbody all present very well and reflect a life of careful maintenance and sympathetic ownership. On the road, the 1.9-litre engine feels lively and eager, pulling strongly through all five gears, with smooth gear changes and effective braking. The engine and running gear have clearly been maintained to a high standard throughout the car’s life. Notably, the cambelt and waterpump have just been replaced. Accompanying the Peugeot are two sets of keys and an extensive history file, including the original bill of sale and owner’s handbooks. An exceptionally original and beautifully preserved example of the definitive hot hatch of the 1980s. This 205 GTI is currently being prepared for sale.
