Between Last Night and Us was born quietly, out of friendship and instinct, before anyone involved knew just how far these songs would travel. Formed in Adelaide in 2004 by university friends Taasha Coates and Tristan Goodall, with Cam Goodall and Mikey Green, The Audreys emerged from a shared belief in storytelling, melody, and emotional restraint. Tristan’s simple encouragement—that Taasha could write songs—sparked a creative partnership that would help shape a generation of Australian roots music. Recorded in the band’s earliest days, the album captures a rare sense of immediacy. Anchored by Coates’ unmistakable voice—warm, conversational, and quietly commanding—songs like “Banjo & Violin,” “Oh Honey,” and “You & Steve McQueen” unfold with intimacy and grace. Folk, blues, and country influences blend into something timeless and unforced. There is space in these recordings—room for breath, for silence, for the listener to step inside. It’s the sound of a band discovering itself in real time. Originally released in 2006, Between Last Night and Us went on to win the ARIA Award for Best Blues & Roots Album and achieve Gold status, becoming a modern classic of Australian music. Following the passing of Tristan Goodall in 2022, the album has come to represent not only a remarkable debut, but the enduring legacy of a creative partnership cut short. Now, twenty years on, it returns as a limited edition clear blue vinyl reissue, lovingly remastered by Alex Mader and housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with obi strip—reconnecting the beginning with the legacy, and reaffirming the quiet power these songs still hold.
