Yellowstone Nursery

I have been focusing on painting in Yellowstone for some months now. It's kind of a no-brainer. As soon as I am in my car headed there something light and airy takes over my spirit. I'm focussed on the land. However, for nearby residents, even after a non-winter like this one, one of the highlights about living here is seeing the baby buffalo. For the uninitiated, they are actually a bright reddish orange color. In local parlance, they are called "red dogs". They are light and lively, still in touch with the ether. So crazy that they grow to be 1,000 pounds and formidable. Some large males can be 2800 pounds, smaller females, 750. And these skittery, happy, playful, sleepy babes are fiercely protected by the herd. They are the future. The freedom and safety of these golden changelings, may signify all of our survival in these challenging times. No wonder the ooh and ahs of the valiant visitors who brave the blustery weather is accompanied by such beatific expressive faces. It's just joyous.
