Beehive Wooden Door Knobs with Chrome Rose
Our Beehive Wooden Door Knobs with Chrome Rose combine a traditional timber door knob with a bright polished chrome rose plate. Inspired by the historic skep beehive, the distinctive concentric ring detail has made this style popular since the Georgian and Victorian periods and it remains a popular choice for period homes, cottages and traditional renovations today. Available in either natural rosewood or an ebonised finish, these wooden door knobs are supplied as a pair and mounted on solid brass chrome rose plates. The rosewood option highlights the natural grain of the timber, whilst the ebonised version features a durable black coating applied to the rosewood base, creating a darker appearance that works particularly well alongside painted doors and traditional interiors. Beehive door knobs are often fitted to panelled doors, where the knob can be positioned on the centre rail of the door. This allows a longer tubular latch to be used without looking out of proportion and provides a comfortable grip when opening and closing the door. The polished chrome rose offers a brighter and cleaner appearance than traditional brass fittings, making these knobs particularly suitable where traditional timber hardware is being combined with chrome hinges, locks and other ironmongery. Unsprung Door Knob Information These door knobs are unsprung, meaning there is no spring mechanism built into the knob itself. Instead, the return action is provided by the tubular latch. For this reason, we strongly recommend using a heavy-duty tubular latch. A lightweight latch may struggle to return the knob fully after use, resulting in poor operation over time. Our complete sets have been carefully selected to include suitable heavy-duty tubular latches to ensure reliable performance. Set Options This product is available in the following configurations: Pair of Beehive Wooden Door Knobs Pair of Knobs with 3" Heavy Duty Tubular Latch Pair of Knobs with 4" Heavy Duty Tubular Latch Pair of Knobs with 3" Tubular Latch, Deadbolt and Chrome Bathroom Turn & Release Pair of Knobs with 4" Tubular Latch, Deadbolt and Chrome Bathroom Turn & Release Whilst a 3" latch can be used, we generally recommend a 4" tubular latch where possible. The additional backset helps keep your hand further away from the door frame and reduces the chance of knocking your knuckles against the jamb when operating the door. The tubular latches and deadbolts supplied within our sets are fire rated to CE 1121 CF 5531. Where a certified fire door installation is required, we recommend consulting your door manufacturer or building professional to confirm overall compliance. Installation The two knobs are connected through the door using a threaded spindle and secured using a small grub screw located within the neck of each knob. This traditional fixing method provides a secure installation and allows the knobs to be adjusted during fitting. For customers unfamiliar with this style of fixing, we provide a detailed fitting guide and video tutorial to help with installation. Because the chrome rose plate is separate from the wooden knob, these knobs can technically be used with certain rim locks. However, due to the shoulder on the neck of the knob, we would generally recommend choosing a dedicated rim knob where a rim lock installation is planned.
