SWEDISH 1940S/1950S BLUE STRIPED TWO PIECE SUIT BY SIR. SIZE CA EU 48-50 (US/UK 38-40)

DESCRIPTION This suit is of Swedish origin, made by SIR and produced in the late 1940s or possibly a few years later, in the early 1950s. It was originally sold by the menswear retailer Hompes, located in Katrineholm, a small town approximately 140 km south of Stockholm. The fabric is rather striking — a wool cloth with a strong blue tone and a distinct light blue stripe. Fabrics of this kind were particularly common during this period. The jacket is single-breasted and fastens with two buttons. It features horizontal front pockets with flaps as well as a breast pocket. The fastening point is relatively low and the lapels are generously cut, with a buttonhole on the left lapel. An unusual detail can be found at the cuffs, where each sleeve has a button on either side, giving a slight impression of cufflinks. The back is plain and closed, without a vent. Internally, the jacket is fully lined and fitted with two inner pockets, one on each side. The trousers feature double forward pleats and slightly slanted front pockets. They have belt loops and a button fly. At the rear, there is one pocket on each side, both with flaps and button fastening. In terms of condition, the overall impression is good. Upon closer inspection, however, a number of imperfections become apparent. There is discolouration to the lining in both the jacket and the trousers, and one of the front trouser pockets has a hole. The most noticeable issue is a couple of repairs to the trousers. These do not greatly affect the overall appearance, though a professional reweaver could make them even more discreet if desired. Please study the photographs carefully and form your own impression of the condition. SIZE The jacket corresponds to a modern EU 48–50 (UK/US 38–40). The trousers are slightly smaller in terms of waist measurement, approximately an EU 46 (UK/US 36). It is, however, worth noting that there is sufficient material in the waistband to let the trousers out so that they correspond more closely to the jacket size.
