Anna Nikipirowicz's Fair Isle and Steeking Workshops - 2 week course - Saturdays 13th & 20th June
Join us for a rare opportunity to learn from a master in her craft - Anna Nikipirowicz. Anna will be leading a 2 week course in Fair Isle (13th June) and Steeking (20th June). Both sessions will run from 10:30-12:30. During the first part of the workshop we will learn to knit using the Fair Isle technique using one and two-handed methods. You will start knitting swatches that will be cut on the next lesson. You will need to finish the swatches at home, ready for next lesson. The second class will be all about reinforcing our work using two methods and steeking. Participants will need to bring: 3.50mm Double Pointed Needles (DPNs), if you have a tight tension, then please bring 4mm DPNs. Tapestry needles Stitch marker Sharp pair of tapestry scissors 3mm crochet hook We are offering the workshop in 2 parts - you can book both or choose one or the other only. If you choose just the steeking workshop, you will need to knit your piece for steeking before the class. What is steeking? Steeking is one of those terms that strikes fear in to the heart of even the most experienced of knitters and there’s a good reason there is an ‘eek’ in the word because it involves cutting your knitting. Yes, you did read that right, cutting…with scissors. But fear not, the cut is made vertically so, with some careful preparation, your knitting won’t fall apart. Why would I do that? When working a complex Fair Isle pattern, or even if you don't like purling, it's far simpler and more fun to work a sweater in the round and then convert it to a cardigan. This workshop shows you how to create the stitches that will later be steeked (cut) and how to secure the edges afterwards. Experience required: you will be an intermediate knitter who knows how to knit in the round on DPNs or with a circular needle. Note that we will be using wool yarns in this workshop so it is not suitable for anyone with a wool allergy. The Small Print: If you cancel your booking within one week of the class commencing, we will attempt to fill your place. If we cannot fill the place, we are sorry, we cannot refund your fee. If your circumstances change and you wish to transfer onto a different workshop, we reserve the right to charge a transfer fee - £10 for a single session workshop, £20 for a longer course. This is to partially compensate us for an empty place on a course that we cannot fill. Crates of Wool Ltd acts as agent for Crates of Wool Training & Services Ltd which provides all our workshops. Crates of Wool Training & Services Ltd is not registered for VAT therefore no VAT is charged on our workshops.
