Friday, July 31 2:00-5:00, 3 hours About this class: If you are familiar with 3D knitwear, you know there are various methods of achieving texture in hand knitting. However, in this class we will dig deeper on combining several of these methods in an effort to achieve an unachievable - use knitting techniques that offer elasticity and malleability in order to create structured crisp lines reminiscent of ancient art of paper folding, or any other geometric iterations. Students can choose to swatch or cast on and put their newfound knowledge to practice by working on either YABANE COWL or COMPLEAT COWL patterns for making their own wearable origami accessories. Skills requires: knowing how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, slip stitches, decrease, increase. About the instructor: Olga Buraya-Kefelian currently lives in Alexandria, VA but grew up in Belarus, where she learned knitting at a very young age from her seamstress mother. While traveling the world in service of her spouse’s military career she adapted her knitting hobby into a career in knitwear design. Drawing inspiration from industrial and architectural fields, Olga’s knitwear designs are infused with innovation, from creating unique stitch patterns to exploring unusual construction. Her extensive design portfolio ranges from accessories to garments, balancing her love for texture and minimalism with technique-driven elements to bring impeccably finished knitwear designs that can enrich the skill set of any knitter. She has authored several knitting titles and produced a number of collections, and can often be seen traveling the world teaching everything she knows about knitting.
