2026 Watercolour on paper 17 x 13 cm Alberto Torres Hernández is a London-based Spanish painter and draughtsman whose work explores identity, desire, and the body through the lens of classical mythology. Working primarily in oil and on paper, he reinterprets the iconography of Ovid’s Metamorphoses and Titian’s Poesie to interrogate normative constructions of gender and sexuality, queering the Western figurative tradition from within. His ongoing series One Continuous Poem – Queering the Classics brings together the sensuality of Old Master painting and a contemporary critical gaze, situating marginalised bodies at the centre of narratives that once excluded them. Originally from Seville, Torres Hernández holds an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London (2014), following a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts (2012) and a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Seville (2008). Solo exhibitions include One Continuous Poem at SQFT: Space Gallery, London (2025); When I See You, I Feel Young at DFRG Press HQ, London (2022); Sacred to Profane at Palazzo Monti, Brescia (2019); Past Continuous at Casa Quota, Rome (2018); and Sobre La Vida Y Otros Asuntos De Importancia at Fundación Alvargonzalez, Gijón (2013). Selected group exhibitions include Pride Show at Capital Group HQ, London (2024, 2025 & 2026); Manhood at Project 13, London (2021); Transatlántico at Mana Contemporary, New Jersey (2020–2021); The Most Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo + Juliet at DFRG Press HQ, London (2020); London Art Fair with Cynthia Corbett Gallery / Young Masters (2020); Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize (2019); Young Masters Arts Prize at La Galleria, London (2019); Pazzo Palazzo at Palazzo Monti, Brescia (2019); Royal Society of British Artists at Mall Galleries, London (2018); Dimensione Fragile at Biblioteca Vallicelliana, Rome (2018); the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London (2013); and the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London (2013).
