The H-cell with dual optical windows features two optical windows that are made of high purity quartz with a transmittance >95%, allowing both compartments to be illuminated. The cell body is built from high-quality borosilicate glass. This configuration supports two photoelectrodes operate simultaneously. This can be used for tandem photoelectrochemical systems, where a photoanode and photocathode both contribute to the overall photovoltage, potentially reducing the external bias required. Alternatively, the configuration can be used for independent studies of anodic and cathodic photoresponses under identical experimental conditions. The anode and cathode chambers are bridged by viaduct joints yet separated by ion-exchange membrane. The design supports accommodating two photoactive electrodes, two sampling windows, reference and counter/ auxiliary electrodes in the user selected compartments, and gas inlets/outlets, the lids are well screw-fitted to the H-cell chambers. The photoelectrodes has precise alignment with the optical window for maximum light exposure and absorption. All the electrodes are then further secured and sealed to the lids with the help of electrode secure screws and O-ring seals to ensure an airtight operation. A luggin capillary and a gas bubbler is provided for both chambers, supporting accurate and stable measurements. The H-cell design with two detachable chambers and replaceable optical windows makes it is convenient for the device to be assembled and disassembled, and easy to clean. Photoelectrochemical H-cell with dual optical windows finds applications in photoelectrocatalytic reactions, CO2 reduction, light induced water-splitting, photo corrosion, and artificial photosynthesis. Note: The quoted volume (100 ml) is the total volume across the H-cell set up needs to fill up to the bridge, therefore each half-cell has a volume of about 50-60 ml.
