ROMAN SIGNET RING, 2ND-5TH CENTURY AD, SIZE 9 1/4
2.8mm rounded face band flaring to the shoulders. Oval bezel originally with a motif, now obscured by age degradation. It served as a signet, which identified the owner and could be used to seal legal matters. Less than 10% of Roman citizens were literate. (In Ben Hur, the title character identifies himself by stamping Messala’s tablet with his ring which bears the signet of Quintus Arrius.) Jewelry gift boxed with Certificate of Authenticity. Rare wearable size.
