A: Event Horizon B: Dangerous Liaisons *LISTEN* - Chicago house devotee Amir Alexander has always understood how little material a truly great after-hours record actually needs. This latest 12" on LMD continues that tradition beautifully. 'Event Horizon' unfolds so gradually it feels static at first, just zipping drum pressure and cavernous dub haze circling endlessly around one another, though later on the track suddenly reveals itself as pure hypnosis. 'Dangerous Liaisons' edges into smokier territory altogether, female vocal fragments drifting teasingly through the mix while tiny melodic smears appear and disappear against the percussion. There's barely anything happening in literal terms, which is precisely why it works so well.
