18th Century Oak Coffer

An 18th century oak coffer. A fine 18th century antique oak coffer displaying a beautiful rich patina developed over centuries of use. Three framed panels to the front, typical of Georgian coffers, and panels to the sides. The plank top with hand-carved edge detailing is hinged on blacksmith made cranked wrought iron hinges and locates in to an iron lock (no key). The upper front rail is decorated with hand-carved ‘thumb’ mouldings with a decorative brass escutcheon to the centre. Ideal for use as a blanket chest, hallway storage or simply as a beautiful antique sideboard.
