95 x 59 inches (241 x 150 cm) 150 knots / inch, New Zealand wool Edition of 20 + 2APs object description Nathalie Du Pasquier is a French painter and designer who lives in Milan and is one of the founding members of the legendary Memphis Design Group. Working within various practices, Du Pasquier is intrigued by the relationship between physical form and its surface and while known for her ostensibly abstract paintings and motifs, it is really only reality that interests her.

Du Pasquier fearlessly utilizes saturated pop-groove color and classically mesmerizing avant-baroque patterns to achieve something that is both dead-serious and whimsical. She has created a rug about which she says: "This carpet was designed in winter. It is called America because it is modern. It could be a flag for a modernity which is not linked with technology, but which puts together elements from different times like the collage from which it originated."

We offer limited edition rugs by some of the most compelling contemporary artists working today. Each artist is intimately involved in the translation from artwork to rug. Made of wool and silk, the rugs are hand-knotted by highly-skilled artisans in Nepal using the traditional cross-weaving technique. Many carpets today are made with uncrossed weaving which is cheaper, faster to produce, and less durable.

The mill’s carbon footprint is extremely low. It does not employ any heavy machinery and uses electricity generated via hydro (not coal, not diesel, not nuclear), as well as solar panels and windmills. No harsh chemicals are used when the rugs are washed.

Each rug is GoodWeave certified. This ensures that no child labor was used in the production of our rugs. GoodWeave conducts unannounced random inspections of the factory and makes sure all adult weavers are paid fair wages. Their overall mission is to end child labor in the carpet industry and to offer educational opportunities to children in South Asia.
