Madagascariense

Platycerium madagascariense is an epiphytic staghorn fern known for shield fronds with a deeply channeled, raised-vein texture. The shields look as if someone pressed a tiny map into them and forgot to smooth it out. Fertile fronds rise away from that base and can produce spores when mature. This species is native to Madagascar, which is enough geography for one small fern to carry. Its appeal is the contrast: an intricate, almost architectural shield paired with a much simpler outward gesture. The nickname “monkey brain” is understandable. The plant has chosen not to comment on it.
