Pomanders in the Wildwood - Orange, Clove, Fir Balsam, Cold Air

Notes: Orange, Clove, Fir Balsam, Cold Air Scent Description: For this scent, I’m imagining pomanders (clove-studded oranges) hanging from gnarled branches in the wildwood. Deeper within the brambles lies a crone’s cottage – perhaps the crone hung the pomanders? A bitter winter wind is blowing through the wildwood, causing the pomanders to swing precariously from the tree branches. Originally, this scent was just going to be straight pomander – that is, until I got my hands on a fir balsam material and fell utterly in love. I reworked the scent and added my cold air accord, to make it an atmospheric blend. Now for the fun science-y stuff! To get the orange note to feature prominently throughout the weartime and not disappear immediately, I didn’t just use orange essential oil. I also added molecules like citral, paradisamide, fructone, and methyl pamplemousse, which ended up making a super tangy, long-lasting orange note. The clove note is pretty simple; it’s just clove and star anise essential oil. I’m really proud of the cold air accord; I didn’t want it to be minty, so I used other cooling materials, such as eucalyptol and lavender, some “wet” smelling materials like precyclemone B and Helional, and some sparkle with Allyl amyl glycolate and aldehyde c-12. Then smoothed everything over with soft white musks!
