Hachiryō | Shigaraki Octagonal Cup Set

The Hachiryo cup set features two handmade octagonal cups, each shaped using the traditional tebineri technique by master potter Hitoshi Minagawa at Tsuchinoko Kiln in Shigaraki, Japan. Made from local clay, the cups are fired for about one week in an anagama kiln above 1200°C, where pine ash and flame create an unglazed yakishime finish that can never be reproduced exactly. Each cup measures approx. 3.1" wide × 3.5" high (80 × 90 mm), with a 9.1 fl oz (270 ml) capacity. The octagonal form retains subtle asymmetry from the hand-building process, while brown, beige, ochre, and ash tones reveal the effects of heat, flame, and natural ash. Each cup carries its own quiet expression of wabi-sabi. Made primarily for tea, Hachiryo is equally suited to coffee and herbal infusions. Hand wash only.
