USAAC Roundel (Aug 1919 - May 1942) Lapel Pin
Introduced on Aug 19ᵗʰ, 1919, this U.S. national aircraft insignia featured a white five-pointed star with a red centre set within a blue circular field. It became the standard marking on U.S. Army aircraft throughout the interwar period and remained in use as the Army Air Corps became the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1941. The red centre was removed on May 15ᵗʰ, 1942, following concerns that it could be confused at a distance with the red Japanese Hinomaru.
