Black Panther (Big Cat Series)
I was a bit complacent heading into this painting. I thought it would be relatively simple. Absolutely not the case. I started off painting the whole thing in just black. I really wanted to avoid using any white for the shading to create grey, and instead use other colours to create depth and hopefully make the panther’s coat look shiny. I used Winsor Green and Prussian Blue. It was a very tricky and lengthy process, as I had to put the paint on then let it dry before I knew if it had worked or not. This is because these colours look very different when dry, so it was a lot of experimenting with the amount of colour. It’s not something I’ve ever done before, but I really enjoyed that side of it, and it actually worked!
