Antique Chinese Elm Console Table with Carved Spandrels

Dating to circa 1900, this late Qing dynasty console table is crafted from elm with a warm reddish-brown patina. A framed inset top with softly rounded edges highlights the expressive grain of the wood.Straight legs joined by stretchers support an openwork apron of scrolling, ruyi-like spandrels, with shaped corner brackets adding measured ornament. Its narrow 38-inch form and traditional mortise-and-tenon construction make it equally useful as a hall table, console or substantial side table.
