In Greek mythology, Persephone was gathering narcissus flowers when Hades took her to the Underworld. Where she’ll come to be spending part of the year above as the goddess of spring and part of the year below as Queen of the Underworld. The pomegranate on her necklace is a reference to the seeds Persephone ate while in the Underworld. Once she had eaten the food of the Underworld, she became permanently bound to it, forever tying her to both realms. Her time in the Underworld is reflected in the changing seasons. When Persephone rules, the earth enters fall and winter. The torch represents the light that guided Persephone home after she had been lost for so long. It also represents finding your way through darkness. You can have the dark intensity with the light of spring.
